On my way home, something told me to look to my right, and I saw something that was just sickening to the stomach. It was my uncle serving my mother crack-cocaine at this filthy house that was located a couple of blocks from my high school. She was literally on the porch with him smoking out of a can, and if you did not know better a person would think she was drinking from the can. That was the oldest trick in the book to make it appear you were sipping out of the can but actually were smoking. However, she did not see me, neither did he. Instantly, I began running home. I was crying so hard because I felt like God delivered me into a dysfunctional family and things were never going to work out in my favor. Unfortunately, people all over the town knew my mother was on drugs, but they had so much respect for me in that regard, they never brought it up in front of me.

About the Book
Tyler Pennington is someone who has the intelligence, but who lacks the money to attend one of the best universities in America. He does everything in his power to work countless jobs and balance school life to the best of his ability. With all the hard work he displays, it is still not enough to cover his tuition. He had to do something he never wanted to do, but needed to do, in order to stay in college. It is an array of things that made him make a life altering decision that had drastic consequences. This story shows that Intelligence does not always equal to money or can easily replace it.
About the Author
The author is a graduate of both Texas A&M University and Lamar University with degrees in sociology and business entrepreneurship, respectively. Growing up into a poverty-stricken community has taught the author to elevate beyond measure in order to defy odds in all that he does. He has a very unique perspective that he writes from that is very intriguing to his readers. He also displays depictions of everything he writes about that make you, as a reader, feel as if you experienced the journey firsthand. People from all walks of life can be touched by his writing style as well as appreciate how he challenged himself to bring social commentary within his books.
