Hours seem to pass with no end. Will I look like these hideous creatures when they are through with me? he wonders. Then, he is turned over by an unknown source of energy. For the first time, he realizes that he had never been on the table at all. Colored beams of light shoot from the ceiling and brand a golden cross into his back. Then, a serpent beast is formed, wrapping around the golden cross. *** 5,326 Years Later The Present Within a darkly lit room, a young man watches a pretty woman upon a giant screen. In a foreign dialect unlike anything used in the modern world, a voice is heard behind the man. "The male line of the name, Kantorovich, for two generations is gone," a priest said over the shoulder of the man. "She is not the key," the head priest said for the many. "Our fate has already been written." "Destiny can always be rewritten," the man explained. "My options are few." "In doing this, you risk all," the priest replied with his head bowed. "May our souls go with you." "My heart goes with you," twelve more priests said in unison. Three days later, a young couple sat at a candle-lit table in a high class restaurant. In fact, they appeared to be the youngest ones there. *** The voice sounded almost human, but with a heavy accent. "He must have a talking parrot," she tried to convince herself, as the scratching continued on the other side of the closet door. Barbara reached for the door and was touched by something ice cold on her bare arm. "AHHHH!" she screamed. "Your drink, Barbara," Mylok said with a grin, anticipating her reaction. "Sorry to have scared you." A bit outraged by the cruelty to the trapped pet, Barbara asked, "Why did you stick your parrot in the closet?" "Rooh min hown," (get out of here) Mylok screamed in Arabic at the small beast behind the closet door. A soft scampering slosh was heard, and then all was silent. "What was that?" Barbara asked in disbelief, as her body shivered from the strange sound. A cold chill went down her spine. It sounded to her like a webbed duck running on a floor of jello. The sloshing noise reminded her of the monster movie, The Beast from the Swamp Lands, she had seen as a young girl. "Just a pet," Mylok said. "The apartment complex doesn’t allow animals in the building, so I have to keep him behind the closet door." "Can I see him?" Barbara pleaded. "Sorry," Mylok said while shaking his head. "He’s gone." "Oh come on! Where can he go in a closet?" Barbara asked as she started to slide the door back. Mylok gently grabbed her hand. *** The design of the flying craft looked much like two snow mobiles side-by-side. Barbara thought that the controls were much like a motorcycle’s. Mylok hit the accelerator, and the blue machine streaked down the long hallway. Barbara held on for dear life. She had never been on a regular motorcycle, let alone one that actually flew. Barbara noticed many doorways fly past, but was unable to see inside any of them because of their high speed. The vehicle was fairly silent, thought Barbara, for all the strain that must have been placed on the engine. All she heard was a slight "whooshing" sound from the air being sucked into air vents on both sides of the flying machine. The craft had a streamlined front with a small grill which measured about a foot across. The three intake vents in the front passed through the engine and then fed into a rocket in the rear. The rocket itself must have been about two feet in diameter, she thought. The hallway seemed to go on for miles. With the soothing breeze blowing in her face, she soon began to relax and enjoy the ride. She shouted to Mylok, "How fast are we going?" "Two hundred and fifteen miles per hour," Mylok yelled back to Barbara. "I usually travel faster," he added, not wanting to place too much of a strain on her frail body. She noticed a flashing light on Mylok’s control board. Her apprehension grew, as she thought she saw them coming to the end of the corridor. "Hold on," Mylok screamed to her.
