Once a Rotarian, Always a Rotarian

When my wife and I moved back to the Philadelphia area we were put in a situation where there was a huge amount of uncertainty. While we were close to both of our families, which was the impetus for the move back from Israel, we were in a new town, unemployed, and trying to figure out what we were going to do. With both of us having found some form of employment in the first half of 2012, we were still trying to find ways to become a part of the community rather than simply a couple that rented an apartment in the area. While my wife found her own way and started volunteering with the Philly Friendship Circle (I joined her on several occasions), it wasn’t until late that summer when I found my way of joining the community. After attending a few meetings during the summer, I was inducted into the Rotary Club of Bala Cynwyd – Narberth in August and was immediately given the opportunity to not just attend but be an active participant in the club. I was honored and appreciative of the trust put in me and the investment that all the members made in helping me develop not just as a leader but as a human being. Over the next year there remained many uncertainties in my life with only a few substantial exceptions one of which was Rotary. Every week I knew I could rely on Rotary to both ground me and inspire me to do better, work harder, and embrace all that life has to offer. Rotary filled a void during that year, an empty space that I didn’t realize existed long before the uncertainty descended upon me.

About the Book
This collection was originally written as posts for my blog, Time To Keep It Simple, which has long since served as a daily record of my life as a traveler, writer, genealogist, photographer, Rotarian, Mason, Jew, PR professional, and many other (mostly positive) things. Those original posts have been divided into sections according to The Four Way Test which is recited before every Rotary meeting and serves as a means to guide the actions of every Rotarian. The questions we ask ourselves every day are as follows: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Does it promote GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIP? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? While my activity within Rotary has been limited in recent years, the lessons that I learned while an active member of my club continue to influence my life. The friendships formed during that time are some of my most treasured and I will forever be thankful for the support that I continue to receive from my fellow Rotarians. However, most importantly, my time as a Rotarian has given me the skills and passion for service and community that has made me a better leader, person, husband, and father.
About the Author
Sean M. Teaford was inducted into The Rotary Club of Bala Cynwyd – Narberth in August of 2012 and quickly assumed a leadership role in the club serving as Sargent-At-Arms, Vice President, and President Elect in rapid succession. In addition to various initiatives at the club level, Sean was a speaker at district events and is also a graduate of the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI). While no longer an active Rotarian, he remains loyal to the lessons learned and leadership skills acquired while an officer with the club. A public relations account executive, Sean lives in Morgantown, Pennsylvania with his wife and young son.
