About the Book

Addie Hatfield wants to become a schoolteacher. While other girls are looking for beaus and talking about marriage, she studies. That is until she finds Jake Lydell lying in her parents’ pasture, bleeding from a gunshot wound. When bullets shatter the bedroom window, Addie is fighting to keep Jake alive, but she does not know he is a bootlegger from Arkansas. Gradually he tells her about his life. Will Addie and Jake have the courage to fight for their love?

About the Author

Jessie Vanderpool studied professional writing at the University of Oklahoma and has published short and book-length stories and a novella, “Tender Pain.” Her young adult novels are “Searching for Home” and “Jenary Stakes a Claim.” She has written contemporary and historical novels as well as children’s picture books, including “Christmas Dreams Come True.” With a degree in psychology and a master’s from the University of Oklahoma, Jessie Vanderpool has taught psychology classes from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. She is also a practicing family psychotherapist.
