About the Book
Marines are unquestionably the most respected, feared, revered, and admired human beings on the face of this planet. They train harder, fight harder, and love stronger than any other members of the armed forces. They are not just patriots. They are not just service members. They embody all the things that an honorable man aspires to be. This book touches on the morals and ethics of all United States marines as well as their sense of loyalty and faith to their country, their families, and themselves. This book calls upon their faith in the teachings of the United States Marine Corps to strengthen the bond of marines active and retired and those who did their tours and moved on to a different life. Straight-and-to-the-point thoughts that motivate, remind, and reiterate what it means to be a United States marine. These thoughts will recall for each and every marine who opens these pages to remember what it was like go through what no other normal human being can possibly fathom, only to get back up and ask for more. Words like pride, honor, dignity, respect, integrity, tenacity, determination, dedication, commitment, valor, and fortitude, just to name a few, are ingrained into the very fibers of marines’ body, mind, and spirit. Those who do not know what it means to be a marine may find some of these passages vulgar, harsh, and sacrilegious, and this book is not for them. Marines will find the motivation within these pages that will pull them up from the depths of despair and shake them to their very core, screaming at them in the voice of their most intimidating drill Instructor, “Get up and act like a marine!”
About the Author
Jerry L. Smith served in the United States Marine Corps from December 15, 1992, until December 14, 1997. He was honorably discharged, and the Marine Corps has been a part of him ever since. Twice divorced and several jobs since his discharge, Jerry continues to utilize the Esprit de Corps and Corps values instilled in him by the Marine Corps. He has encountered various marines at various stages of their lives, but the one thing that each and every one had in common was their strength through the title of a United States marine. He is confident that every marine who reads his thoughts will relate to and find inspiration in one or many of the passages written by him. Jerry chose to express a thought and leave it up to the individual marine to find their own motivation in his words. He acknowledges the hard fact that the marines reading his writings may be experiencing loss of loved ones, going through an intense divorce, in between jobs, struggling to readjust to civilian life after returning home from war, or a new recruit trying to survive boot camp. The Marine Corps was, is, and always shall be an intricate part of every person who earns the title. Jerry strived to convey these feelings and sentiments through his words on each and every page of this book. Hoping to tap into each marine’s fighting spirit and their iron will to adapt and overcome all obstacles, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual, he has written sincere thoughts, somewhat comical thoughts, and heartfelt, emotional thoughts to his fellow marines. Jerry believes that marines will read this book and they will get it, while those who are not marines may find its contents a bit extreme, to say the least. This book was written for the former, not the latter, and that provides the author with a sense of accomplishment and a peace of mind that only a marine would understand. Each and every day, Jerry says something, does something, or feels something that only a marine would, and he knows that this is true for every marine walking the earth no matter where they are or what they may be experiencing. This book was written by a marine to marines and for marines past, present, and future.
