About the Book

“This book grabbed me from the first few pages in a vice-like grip and didn’t let me go until I had reached its ingenious and disturbing conclusion.” —James Dearden, Script Writer & Film Director “An irresistible cast of corrupt and perverse characters inhabiting a compelling narrative. A guilty, shameful pleasure. ” —John Boorman, Director & Producer Georges is an orphan whose luck seems to change when a wealthy Frenchman adopts him and takes him home. However, his adopted father is nothing but a monster, and he raises Georges to be charming, handsome, and truly malevolent. As a grown man, Georges has neither morals nor conscience—and also an addiction to gambling and a desperate need to feed his habit. Serena Cheetham is a naïve, slightly overweight but attractive girl who inhabits the rarefied world of the ultra-rich. Georges will stop at nothing to satisfy his warped needs, so he easily seduces young Serena to gain his ends. Serena’s wealthy and powerful family is horrified by the introduction of Georges into Serena’s life, but despite her parents’ efforts, the couple makes their escape and heads to the United States. Serena realized too late the dangerous machinations of her lover. As Georges’ gambling continues—intermingled with suspicions of blackmail and even murder—he drags her down lower and lower into the depths of evil. Is it too late for Georges to be saved, as he corrupts everyone who crosses his path? Still, Serena might have a chance for redemption, if only she can escape the clutches of a man who threatens her survival.
