About the Author
I was born into the Wallis family on the September 29, 1939, the youngest of three lads, and I also have a sister. We were brought up in the Salvation Army, and I learned to play the cornet and quite few other instruments, including the violin, which I learned to play at school, and also the tenor horn. I had a craving for the sea and loved deep fishing outside our harbour. My father was then a captain in the merchant navy and has done many trips to sea and also travelled round the world, taking private owners’ yachts to various foreign ports, and one of them is the story in the book, which I hope you will like to read. When I was sixteen years old, I entered into an apprenticeship, building Iceland in trawlers, then I passed my city and guilds examinations and left and signed on the merchant navy as a ships carpenter and went round the world, doing my varied job as a ships carpenter and joiner.
