My next memory is of viewing myself in the mirror of the fitting room. As with the last time; I am short of breath. I notice that there is a fitting room door again and not a curtain, so I guess I am back in my own time. I am trying to focus and catch my breath. I am on my hands and knees again with the hat on the floor next to me. That is when I notice that my ears are ringing and I cannot hear anything going on around me so I do not know how long Mary was knocking on the fitting room door. She came in and was shocked to see me on the floor. I cannot imagine what was going through her mind in that moment. She looked panicked, I imagine that she called for help, but I am not certain as my hearing has not fully returned. She has my shoulders and is talking to me inches from my face; I’m not sure what she is saying. I only stare back at her with a blank look on my face.

How would you like to go back in time and visit a relative who has passed away? Sukey gets the opportunity to travel back in time and actually speak with her mom, who passed away several years ago. Who would have thought that a store’s fitting room could be a time portal? Along the way, she encounters two men—one very shady and one very cute. Also, she is very thankful that her (outspoken) best friend goes with her to save her from being stuck forever in the 1950s.

Couture Time Machine is Catherine’s first book. She is a voracious reader and has been quite interested in works about her home state of Michigan, as well as stories concerning time travel. Catherine lives in Michigan with her husband, who is also her high school sweetheart.
