Six months later
It was near recruiting time once again at the academy. It had taken quite some time but Roger had magnanimously forgiven the Fox and the Hound for their error in ignoring his participation during the night of the drug bust. Perhaps, he thought, they had been so busy tracking down criminals he had been forgotten.
The more Roger thought about the night in question, the lack of response from the detectives and the court’s harsh judgement on the criminals involved, Roger realized that he had been right about being accidently over looked. They had simply forgotten about him. It could happen because he was after all their silent partner. He was their secret weapon.
And being a forgiving sort of man, Roger again sent his data and written reports regarding the drug bust to his detective friends only this time he asked for their reference for his application to the police academy.
This last report should do it, thought Roger with pride. He checked all his spelling, gave the barest of facts regarding the bust a year ago and initialled it with a flourish. Of course, it read confidential on top thus insuring it would go no farther than his two friends. They would give him a reference.
After all they were partners.
This time he was more than prepared. The police academy would not dare to refuse him since he had a special connection with the Fox and the Hound. After all, what would they do without his continuous backup? Roger reviewed his application and once again decided to hand delivered it to the station. Maybe he would catch a glimpse of his friends.
Walking down Main Street past all the business, Roger kept a surveillance eye on the stores. You never knew when a crime might happen. A flickering in one of the windows caught his eye. One of the TVs was showing an advertisement for a car show. He stood watching the advertisement along with a few other on-lookers. He was about to turn away when he heard the most wonderful voice in all his thirty years.
The most beautiful woman ever known to mankind was on all the plasma screens. Roger could not resist moving closer and staring at her long strawberry blonde hair, straight nose and pouty lips. Her perfectly arched brown eyebrows matched her pansy brown eyes. Her high cheekbones and beautiful slender neck confirmed she was a princess.
Reaching out with a trembling hand he pressed it on the store window trying to touch her. She was so gorgeous. He heard a few snickers from the young teenage boys standing near him but chose to ignore them. They ceased to exist in his mind.
This wondrous creature was now the centre of his attention.
The blonde beauty was very similar to the angel doll his sister owned when she was small. Listening carefully to where the live show was being held Roger immediately went home to get his car. All thoughts of the getting his application to the police academy on time were forgotten. Her show was on till supper. There was still enough time to meet her. He had to meet her she was after all his destiny.
An hour later Roger found himself at the car show. He madly skimmed over the show case cars and show models for the woman he had seen on TV. Walking up and down the aisles he searched for his strawberry blonde goddess. Beginning to think he was too late Roger was almost ready to give up when he caught a glimpse of his obsession by a black Tundra.
He could not help but stare.
There she was in full view handing out pamphlets to everyone about her new radio talk show. She announced her name, Dr. Elizabeth Delbridge, time and what station to find her. The Dr. told what kind of a show she would be hosting and how she would be there to listen for anyone who needed her. After she finished her spiel she announced there was still enough time to sign autographs. Timidly Roger went over and handed her, his brochure. Gently taking it from his shaky hands, she smiled, signed it and asked if he would phone in.
Numbly he nodded his head up and down. Then he surprised himself, by saying, “Yes, I’ll call you.” Then he was roughly pushed aside by another fan who wanted her autograph. Turning away Roger gave her one last longing look before leaving the dealership. She was a vision of beauty. His eyes stayed on her face for well over a moment until she slowly raised her head, turned it slightly in his direction and smiled at him once more. Roger knew then in his heart they were meant to be a couple forever. To confirm his thoughts his heart gave an odd little thump.
He had found his soul-mate.
She just did not know it yet.
She had looked into his eyes. No one else’s. The entire had moment seemed suspended in time. She was his own. Having the Fox and the Hound as friends, the doctor as his mate – life was complete.
