Debbie's Rabbit

At the corner of his bedroom, Mr Wilson once again spread out the sheets of papers he had retrieved from the rabbit-eaten carton. One after the other, he scanned the pages. Most of them were cut newspaper headlines highlighting a similar tragedy: ‘Fire guts minister’s house’; ‘Lakewood home lost to inferno’; ‘Mother and child die in fire accident’. He kept looking them over carefully before filing them away in another carton. Then, he saw a brown envelope at the base of the carton, one he had not noticed before. Unsure of what was in it, he opened it. It contained a typed and folded three-page letter. He unfolded the document and scanned it. After reading the date and bold heading, he didn’t bother to read more. He already knew what it was. Flipping the envelope over, he saw that it was addressed to Reverend Alexander Wilson. He got up, walked over to the window, and again looked over the extensive wheat farm.
