The complete novel will be transferred over three books with the first being titled The Secret Life of a Training Wizard, the second being The Chalice of Destiny and the final being The Fight for Wizardridge.
The Novel themes contains magical elements such as wizards, witches and mythical creatures. A young boy named Peter Jenkins lives in a small town called Greystone with his parents, Helen and Charles Jenkins and his older brother Ralph Jenkins.
Being raised in poverty due to belonging to a non-magical family he embarks on a journey that changes his life, with only starting his journey to become a wizard his true identity is revealed not only to himself but to the whole of the wizarding world. Every child born in the wizarding world; magically receives a pendent which contains a piece of rare jewel which grants them the right to become a wizard or a witch. This pendent allows the beholder to perform small amounts of magic until they turn sixteen, where they must transfer the magic to a wand.
In this novel Wizardridge is the main capital of the wizarding world, empowered by a great council named the Concilium, it has all rulings over the wizarding world. It is comprised of ten great councillors with the head of the Concilium being Councillor Cerberus the darkest wizard of all. But Councillor Cerberus has a dark secret, a fear of being overthrown by a prophecy of a young witch or wizard completing the three deathly tasks and taking Wizardridge for themselves. Every young wizard or witch possessing a wand must be trained to take part in three tasks but since Councillor Cerberus has been in power, he has closed all wizarding schools and wand shops in the wizarding world in order for young wizards and witches to lose their ability to continue in magic. It is he who also enhanced the three deadly tasks making it near impossible to complete. All have lost their lives since trying to complete these tasks in desperation to become a wizard or a witch, one being Timothy Grivis who also lost his brother a few years earlier under similar circumstances. However Councillor Cerberus is reminded of the prophecy by Timothy’s name being called from the Chalice of Destiny, continuing on his own secret mission, trying to find the wand belonging to Rupert Aldridge; which is the most powerful wand of all wands. With all attempts in finding the wand failing by the Concilium, Councillor Cerberus continues his search in order to stay in power and not be overthrown but yet this being his greatest worry.
The underlying story of the novel is that Peter is unaware that his great grandfather is the late Rupert Aldridge, the founder of Wizardridge, the creator of the Concilium and only of the most powerful wizards of all time. If you were a wizard or a witch you were known to be of higher class, where as those who were non-magical would work for Wizardridge. The majority of non-magical men worked in the mines, digging for magical items, where as the women worked in the grounds of Wizardridge as shop assistants or worked within the homes of wizards and witches as maids. It is Peter that possesses this wand which was given to his father, Charles by Rupert Aldridge, when Aldridge become more and more powerful, he turned to the darkness of magic and many years later at his deathbed he began to regret all his mistakes. By presenting his grandson Charles his wand he made sure for once, that his wand would never be used again as Charles had been a strong believer in non-magic living. Charles later making the decision to change everyone’s family name to Jenkins after marrying Helen Jenkins, then enclosed the wand in a glass box forever hoping it would gather dust and was never to be opened. As Peter manages to get his hands on his great grandfather’s wand, he trains secretly with Charles’ uncle Professor Jenkins, an ex-headmaster of one of the greatest wizarding school in order to enrol into the Wizardridge House. With also the help of Harriet Sedgwick who is Professor Jenkins’ childhood friend, he and Professor Jenkins aid Peter into preparing him for the tasks, but Peter finds himself in all kinds of trouble along the way form finding a rare Barbarian Hornback’s egg to fighting his way through a labyrinth full of trolls from the Dungeon's of Wizardridge.
Peter’s journey started on his fifteenth birthday when his father asks him what he would like as a gift for his birthday, he requests the wand knowing fore well that his father would never give it to him. As Charles refuses; Peter visits Professor Jenkins where they both plan on getting Peter that wand. Peter obtains the wand and begins to secretly train as a wizard as no one knows he has a wand. Later a name is called from the Chalice of Destiny, and Peter and his mother attend the opening ceremony for the Wizardridge House. Peter unexpectedly meets Harriet Sedgwick in an old pub on the request of Professor Jenkins, who later becomes one of Peter’s dear friends. As the friendship blossoms he tells Peter all he knows about Dark Arts of Magic and aids him in finding a Barbarian Hornback’s egg, a rare dragon which will be part of the first task. After staying with Harriet at his home Peter ventures into the Howling Forest where he has his first encounter with trolls, managing to stay alive he returns to Greystone where he hears about the funeral of Timothy Grivis. The whole of the wizarding world attend to mark the first ever funeral of a wizard’s life lost to the tasks, Peter bumps into Charlotte Alumus. A young witch, who was a close friend to Timothy and as he spends some time with Charlotte, Peter becomes fond of her and even showing some signs of care as Harriet later mocks him about Charlotte. Peter and Professor Jenkins attend the 90th Gala of Wizardridge, to mark the 90th anniversary where Councillor Cerberus has decided to hold the event at his private home; this is where Peter first sees the true reality between magical and non-magical families.
With his secret mission on hand Peter explores around the home looking for clues about Councillor Cerberus and his secret plans, he finds himself lost in a labyrinth on the grounds full of trolls from the Dungeon’s of Wizardridge. With also discovering a list from the office of Councillor Cerberus, Peter, Harriet and Professor Jenkins begin to uncover a dark plan set by Councillor Cerberus. As time passes and Peter’s ability to perform magic strengthens, Harriet takes him away to teach him more about the Arts of Dark magic. With the day of Peter’s birthday rapidly approaching, Charles decides to send Peter down into the mines to work alongside his brother, in preparation for his sixteenth birthday. With events unfolding in the mines Ralph manages to cause a stir, and lands himself with a Hearing within Wizardridge just after Christmas day.
As the whole of the Jenkins’ family attend the Hearing, we see Ralph sentenced to life in the Dungeons. With the help of Harriet, Professor Jenkins and even the support of Charles, Peter manages to fight his way to the Chalice of Destiny, where he places his name, but to the surprise of Councillor Cerberus the name that appears in the Chalice was the last one he ever expected.
