4. A LITTLE SLEEP, A LITTLE SLUMBER (08/08/2005) I passed by the field of the sluggard By the vineyard of the man without sense And, lo, it was overgrown with thistles Its surface was covered with nettles And its stone wall was broken down And as I gazed at it, I reflected I saw and learned the lesson: A little sleep, a little slumber A little folding of the arms to rest So shall my poverty come as one that travels; And my want as an armed man Then, I passed by the field of the drunkard By the courtyard of the man without restrain And, lo, it was littered with bottles His face was covered with wrinkles And he wore his wife’s night gown But as I gazed at him, I reflected I saw and learned the lesson: A little sleep, a little slumber A little folding of the arms to rest So shall my poverty come as one that travels And my want as an armed man I also passed by the field of the wizard By the coven of the man without peace And, lo, it was littered with balls of crystals His face was covered with bristles On his shoulders was a cloak coloured brown And as I gazed at it, I reflected I saw and learned the lesson: A little sleep, a little slumber A little folding of the arms to rest So shall my poverty come as one that travels; And my want as an armed man Lastly, I passed by the field of the coward By the cocoon of the man without courage And, lo, it was littered with stories of battles In his hands were no weapons but rattles His timid strides looked like he was a clown And as I gazed at it, I reflected I saw and learned the lesson: A little sleep, a little slumber A little folding of the arms to rest So shall my poverty come as one that travels And my want as an armed man (Inspiration from Proverb 24:30 – 34)

About the Book
The collection of Poems by Gerald Kelechukwu Okeke aka Gerry Wonder is a reflection of the mind of an African and the world around him. It tells stories of dreams, fears, African philosophy, values, norms and culture of the African Society. The book has five chapters. About the Author
Gerald Kelechukwu Okeke is a lover of art. Déjà vu is a collection of one hundred poems written by him over the years. He has written more than two hundred and fifty poems. He is a lover knowledge and humanity. Gerald is an educationist and his primary focus is to improved the reading and writing culture of the African society especially amongst the children. He believes in peace, happiness and love. Above all, he believes in God. Gerald is an engineer, a microbiologist, a medical parasitologist, a poet, a song-writer and above all a happy man. His major dream is to see a world without war and violence, a happy world.
