I had a difficult time just moving around because of the bad weather, and my weight gain. I was extremely clumsy, I fell going down my stairs twice, I just could not see pass my stomach. The worst episode was; when I took my broom to the car to sweep the snow off. I had the car warming up, and I don't know exactly how it happened, but I slid on the ice and ended up under the car with the broom sticking out in the street! My stomach was so big and I had on so many layers of clothing that I could not maneuver my body from under the car. My car was parked on the street and cars were driving right past me, throwing snow and slush right in my face. I just knew that I was going to lose my life; and my baby's life that day! I tried to push with my feet, but I only continued to slide further under the car! I couldn't get a good hold onto any part of the car to pull myself up. Finally, a kind gentleman noticed the broom sticking out into the street, and me holding onto to it. He passed me by, and then turned around to get a second look.
He parked his car next to mine, thus blocking the traffic; it took a few minutes, but he pulled me out to safety. The man was totally taken aback, when he realized that I was 7 months pregnant! He suddenly got really nervous and offered to call the police or take me to the hospital. I thanked him and said that I was fine; I just needed help getting out of my slippery situation!
I not only carried my baby to full term, I ended up being a full week late. My Gynecologist considered a C-Section but said that he would rather wait because it was far too risky with my Crohn's Disease. It was decided that if I ended up being two weeks overdue, the doctor was to admit me and induce my labor. I was huge; I had gained more than 25 pounds. I was miserable, I couldn't get comfortable enough to relax in bed, some nights I’d just sit in the rocking chair, and put my feet on the bed.
Mother and my youngest sister Stephanie had moved to Ohio to help me with Tyrone; and be there when the baby came. About 1:00 AM on Friday Morning March 18th I got up to use the bathroom, apparently I did not make it because as soon as I walked into the bathroom; an uncontrollable gush of water flooded out of my body. I was totally frightened, I went into my Mother's bedroom and woke her he up by saying, ''either my water has broken, or I have peed all over the bathroom floor!” Mother bolted out of the bed and sprung into action, I really wasn't having any labor pains...yet!
When I arrived at the hospital a friend Sally, Lenora's sister-in-law who worked in Labor and Delivery, was there to greet us. Sally told me that she got off of work at 3:00 PM but she would stay with me until I delivered.
It wasn't long before the labor pains started, and they were unbelievably awful!!!! I was begging the doctor for anything to help me with the pain, but he said that he couldn't, it was too early; taking any medication could be harmful to the baby. After several examinations the gynecologist stated that I was having more problems than usual dilating because of my Crohn's Disease; and the scar tissue that I had acquired following my previous operations. He said that only as a last resort would he even consider a C-Section! The doctor conferred with the nurse and informed me, that he would return soon. I was happy to see him; and he even had an extra nurse. I thought that he was bringing me something to help me cope with the pain, maybe even a pain shot! The doctor was carrying a long pair of silver shiny scissors; the nurses surrounded either side of my bed. The nurses told me that I could squeeze their hands as much as I needed to, which puzzled me.
