About the Book

“I didn’t always want to be a police officer, but what a life so far.” This short story is a true, and sometimes shocking account of Matthew’s past decade as a female officer in London’s Metropolitan Police Service. Matthews describes the ups and downs, obstacles and challenges faced on the frontline of the streets of London, and also later on in her career as a detective in the hectic and often harsh world of crime.

About the Author

Sophie A. Matthews is a current-serving officer in the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS). She has policed the streets of London for the last decade, initially as a uniformed police officer on the frontline, and later on as a detective in CID. For the last five years, she has worked as a homicide detective on the well-respected Homicide and Serious Crime Command in London. This is Matthews’s first book, and she chose the subject of her policing career as her literal debut to highlight to the public just how much police officers give every day in the line of duty. She also wrote it to provide an insight for aspiring officers. Furthermore, she addresses the ever-challenging role of working as a female officer in a man’s world.
