“Tubby, you better start listening to the doctor. If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear you were planning on trying to be back on the basketball court by Monday. You know what the doctor said at the hospital the other night. You need to take the time and let your foot heal.” “Yes ma’am, I’m sorry, it won’t happen again.” I said, tiring of the argument quickly. “I don’t plan on being on the basketball court by Monday; I’m hoping to be back on the court in a couple of weeks.” “Whatever Tubby,” she said sounding frustrated. “I’m trying to help you, but you’re starting to get on my nerves.” “I love you Mater.” I said smiling at her. “I don’t care! Here, carry your own books since your foot is fine.” She said, throwing my back pack at me. “Mater, I’m sorry, don’t be mad at me.” I said, putting my back pack on my back and heading towards the door as fast as I could on my crutches. “I’m not mad Tubby, I’m just frustrated. You’re as stubborn as a freaking ox. I swear you’re your own worst enemy sometimes. What are you going to do if the doctor doesn’t let you start walking yet, do it anyway?” “No, if he says I can’t start walking, then I guess I’ll have to continue using the stupid crutches.” “Promise, no arguing with the doctor, you’ll do whatever he says?” “Yes Mater, I promise.” I said. “Good, give me your stupid books back then.” “I’ve got them Mater, besides it’ll be more trouble than its worth to take it back off my back.” “Good point, I’ll help you when we get to your locker.” She said holding the door open for me. “Hey guys,” Jason said meeting us at the door. “Tubby, whatever you did this morning, you better stop before Mater knocks your head off.” We both busted out laughing when he said it.
