Once Upon A Time In the Denton County Jail

I confessed to God that I probably didn’t love Him. In fact I told Him that at that time I really didn’t even like Him. Then I began to pour out my heart to Him. I told him that I realized I had a soul which I hadn’t asked for. But since I had a soul I didn’t want to go to hell. I explained to God how my life was in the toilet (as if he didn’t know). I implored with Him not to flush it until I could get my business straight with Him for the first time in nearly thirty years. Driving, crying, praying, and listening to God I succeeded in surrendering my life to Him. Surrender on my part was simply giving up on myself. Giving up all of my warped, twisted, and self-serving ideas. Also I was carrying a lot of baggage. I didn’t know how to sort through it so I just gave all of it to Him. If I had of known how to sort it out I wouldn’t have been carrying it in the first place! I gave him my fear, doubt, helplessness and my cigarettes. During this prayer I had a picture in my mind of a hobo with a stick over his shoulder carrying his belongings in a sack. In my mind and heart I laid down my baggage as I sat weeping at the foot of the Cross. I gave my all to Him as the cleansing Blood of Christ flowed over me.
