The Adventures of Herba Hoota Hound Dog Bird

When the dust finally settles, Herba and Hoota have run into each other and are knocked out. But wait; there is something very different about them. On the ground is the two of them in one body! The front legs are Herba’s and the rear legs are Hoota’s. It is a hound dog body with fur, feathers and large wings. There are two heads on the one body. One is Herba’s with his floppy, hound dog-ears and hound dog nose; the other is Hoota’s with his white eagle feathers and yellow beak. Because they are so strange looking, Herba Hoota is bullied by Carl the Pit Bully and his friends. The wise old owl teaches Herba Hoota they are a special creation with "super powers." Herba Hoota travels throughout the book experiencing life as a dual personality that uses their "super powers" to teach children at Robinson Middle School about acceptance, friendship, forgiveness and dealing with diversities. These lessons are learned with the humor of the two personalities interacting with each other and the children. Megan is bullied by Angie and some other kids at school because of her weight. Herba Hoota teaches the children to be true friends and helps Megan gain a better self esteem. Herba Hoota and Coach Larson help Gordon, who stutters, but is a good baseball player, become more self reliant about his situation and more courageous. Herba Hoota and Mrs. Larson help Angie, the girl who bullied Megan, address her anger and learn to gain the acceptance of the children she bullied, while teaching the other children forgiveness. The story comes full circle.
