Rosebud heard Aunt Mary tell Rebecca that bears hibernate, which meant they go to sleep in a dark place during the winter. “Ah,” thought Rosebud, “that’s what I do a lot. I hibernate.” When it came time for Rebecca to go home, Rosebud didn’t feel too sad. She liked Rebecca very much, but she was tired and wanted to take a long nap on Hannah’s bed. Unfortunately, Rebecca had other plans. “I have a secret to tell you. I’m not going to send you back to Mrs. Tucker’s house. There is just something so special about you and I need to take you home with me for a while longer.” All Rosebud heard were two words, a while. Once more her stuffing tightened. She worried whether Hannah would ever find her. Rosebud felt her soft body being placed into the middle of freshly washed jeans, shirts, dresses, socks, shoes, pajamas, and underwear. She could hardly breathe. “Hannah always carried me in her arms when we went away,” she cried. Rosebud did not like being hidden in a suitcase at all!

About the Book
Only For A While is the story of a lovingly created stuffed bear named Rosebud. Her journey begins in the arms of seven year old Hannah. Rosebud never dreamed she would ever be parted from Hannah, her best friend. She is content to stay on her bed and wait for her return each day. When Hannah leaves for college, she tells Rosebud she will only be gone for a while. Sad and lonely, Rosebud is delighted when a little girl enters Hannah’s room and asks to borrow her for a while. Little does Rosebud know that she is about to go a long journey away from her beloved Hannah. Throughout her journey, a strong thread of hope that she will one day find Hannah again never wavers.
