Welcome to my world. Let me introduce myself. My name is Mookie and I’m a Yorkshire Terrier, eight weeks old, and I’m cute as cute can be. Not to mention smart, energetic, perfectly adorable, and yes, stubborn at times. But that’s another story.
This morning a human came to visit and told me I was going to a new home - HERS! Truthfully, it had been a rather dull day up to that point so I thought what the heck. A day out could be a lot of fun, a real adventure. So, off we went together in a box with four wheels that moved us down the road. I’d never been in a car before but soon discovered that I loved it! The best part was the fact that the car had windows - real windows - and you could actually move them up and down. I wanted those windows to be open, to smell that fresh air and feel the wind on my face as it blew my ears back against my head. And if by magic, as if she could read my mind, the human rolled the windows down. She then pulled me onto her lap and let me stick my face out the window. I was ecstatic. I thought to myself that maybe I could learn to like this person. She certainly seemed to understand me. I discovered during the ride that her name was Jane and that we would be arriving at her house soon.
When we pulled in the driveway the first thing I noticed was a yard at the back of the house, a huge fenced in yard, with lots of trees and flowers and birds and squirrels everywhere. My idea of heaven. I was hoping that Jane would take me there. Did she know who owned it? Could we get permission to play there?
We went into the house and Jane gave me a bowl of water (with my name on it) and some food to eat. She also showed me a bed on the floor that I could nap or sleep in. I must admit I was pretty worn out from the trip and all the excitement of the morning so that bed was looking pretty darn good by that time. I was just gonna relax and kick back for a few minutes but I guess I fell asleep because I just now woke up. . . . . . . . And I’m ready to explore this place.
So here I am and I’m so excited. There’s all kinds of toys here: bones for me to chew on, stuffed animals to snuggle with, ropes to tug on, and balls to play with. Am I dreaming all this? This is too good to be true. I’ve walked through all the rooms already and the place seems nice enough. But the best part, the very best part, is I’ve learned that the yard belongs to Jane. Which means if I decide to stay here that yard will be mine. Hm-m-m. Definitely something to consider. I better start turning on the charm. Jane is watching something called TV so I’m gonna crawl up into her lap and show her how sweet I can be. Maybe if I let my irresistible cuteness come out she’ll take me for a walk in the back yard later. I think this place is gonna be OK.
