The savagery of his attack after she had managed to claw his face had culminated rather quickly in her death; not what he’d planned when he had picked her up. He was surprised by the ferocity with which she had fought back, and was satisfied watching the life force ebb from her body. Looking at the marks on his face in his rear view mirror he decided to stay away from the restaurant for a few days. On the drive home he thought once again about the owner’s daughter from the fishing lodge; she’d appeared like a vision from the past, and he had a funny feeling if he attempted to hurt her it would cost him his life. She seemed almost charmed, and she always had people like the bow hunter or that Chinaman with those knives ready to hurt anyone who tried to get close to her. He had never talked to anyone about how he felt, but thinking about her now he shivered; he knew he was right. Scarface had done some searching of his own after his evening with the girls; the company that owned the restaurant was in fact a numbered company, and his suspicions were confirmed that the business was probably a front for an individual or perhaps an organization wanting to remain anonymous for any number of reasons. Finding out who actually owned the restaurant would not be easy; much more important was following the manager to see who he reported to.

About the Book
"The Essence Of Evil" is fiction, and was influenced by the pristine wilderness and some events and people that lived in the general area that the story is written about. The young girl in the story could be anyone's young daughter; she has courage and a maturity beyond her years. We all know someone that could be her. The serial killer that stalked the author and his three little girls was eventually caught and put behind bars; but that is a story for another time.
About the Author
Jack Stubberfield was raised and lived in the wilderness of the Pacific NorthWest - primarily central British Columbia. He fished and hunted this area with his dad for many years, and still does with friends and family; never forgetting the wisdom passed on by his best friend and mentor Ned Stubberfield. Jack had several hair-raising experiences with both grizzly bear and a serial killer over the course of his life. He met and became friends with a lot of interesting people, from all walks of life; most of them having the the same love for the wilderness that he has to this day.
