About the Book
I wrote a play and needed it edited. So, not knowing what to do, I went online and contacted Susan Austin at American Association of Community Theatre (AACT). Ms Austin was more than polite and told me she knew of someone who might read over my material. Thinking, hmm, I wrote a play, imagine my shock when I was advised, I not only didn’t have a play written I should go to school to learn writing. Forward I went, enrolling in an English composition course @ Atlantic City Community College, Professor, Nina Washington. In spite of my delusion I learned. When the course was complete I wrote” I am Malcolm X” for the professor as a token of thanks and appreciation. That was that, as they say. Well, two months later I was reading the preface of “The Strange Case of Dr. Jeykl and Mr. Hyde” by Robert Louis Stevenson. Mr. Stevenson’s wife, while editing his prose, notated that he was writing an allegory, not a narrative. I didn’t know what allegory meant so I researched the word and lo’ and behold for the first time in my life I saw—“Plato’s Allegory of the Cave”. Needless to say, by doing as AACT suggested, I accidently mimicked Plato with a story about a man I feel would have united the black community and perhaps others had he been able to relate what he found in the light. This Book Is Dedicated To: Joseph P Campbell (Pop)
About the Author
About the Author: I was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa. in a neighborhood known as Kensington. If you saw the movie “Rocky” you will have a very good idea of my environment. I went to catholic school for twelve years and the reason I mention this is because now a day people have to fork over @ three to four thousand dollars a year for the same education that was free back then. Of course I was aware of the value of such a gift at a young age, so I anchored myself to my upbringing and followed the shooting star of dreamers. Being raised with seven siblings in a collectively surviving group was seemingly the aphrodisiac for “Tribal Living”. In other words, the survival of the fittest. The colloquial elements of my education however proved too slow for me and although learning was my anchor in society, I felt as though I could learn faster on the streets. In other words I became a “know it all”. When high school graduation arrived I was a child of the neighborhood “Tribe”. Barely containing myself, I made it through high school and turned down an academic scholarship to La Salle University. Whenever the desire to learn the essence of something arose, I would go to night school, the result of which is 40 credits in Mathematics, History and 3 semesters of English, including Comp101(writing).
