They waited until morning to make their way back to the herd. Rega and her new colt slept in the cave, with Valor keeping watch at the entrance. As the sun rose over the mountains to the east, the family of horses made their way to down to the valley, with Valor leading the way. Color came into the world as a buckskin, with a black mane and tail. The sun shone off his new coat as he picked his way down the slope. Rega was close behind, and she nosed him when he wavered, and tugged at his mane when he stumbled. This journey would be good for his young legs. When they reached the valley floor the sun was near midday. The grass in the valley rippled with the breeze, casting shadows that seemed to float back and forth. A butterfly came near and then flew away. Color chased after it, his new legs dancing through the meadow. As he jumped and kicked in his excitement, something very strange occurred. The young colt quickly changed color, his coat turned red for a short period and then back to buckskin. Rega was grazing and had raised her head just as Color's coat turned. She shook her head as if to clear her thoughts, but knew what she had seen. She called to Valor.” You probably won't believe me, but I know I just saw our son's coat turn red in color. Valor responded; “You're right, I do not, but the sun may have played tricks on your eyes.” Just as he finished saying this Color's coat turned again, this time to yellow. They both saw this and looked at each other in disbelief. “This cannot be happening…yet I know I saw it,” said Valor.

About the Book
Our story begins on a world not so different from our own. There are lakes and streams with the bluest of water that rushes from mountains green with forest. There are meadows and canyons. Many animals live on this world, but none more beautiful then the horse. These are quite extraordinary horses. Their size and color are like horses in our world, but this is where the similarity ends. They are the fastest animal of this world, able to run for miles. They can jump as if taking flight, they can climb all but the steepest of mountains. And for our story, they can talk to each other. This is a story about one special horse. It will take him some time to know, although he is different from other horses, he has a gift. He will find out what he can do with this gift. Indeed, he is a horse of a different color.
About the Author
KC Dunlap is a first time author. An avid rider and horse owner, his love for horses inspired him to write this book about an endearing underdog horse. He lives in Reading, Pennsylvania with his wife Diane, their two horses, (Sunny and Jet), and their 5 cats. He will continue to write about the further adventures of Color.
