After staring at the new forest for a moment, I decided to venture forward. I tried my best to avoid the curved beans and the many pink flowers scattered across the beige grass. These flowers were familiar, but I couldn’t remember their names. As far as I knew though, they were harmless. I didn’t pay them much mind but instead gazed upon my surroundings, curious. I continued wandering around, hoping to spot something else within the woods. Within time, I found a clearing up ahead and marched towards it, finding myself in a meadow afterwards. The field had many pink flowers, so much that I couldn’t even see the ground. I was able to view the moon above as it shined down a beautiful light. Each flower was pushed whenever the wind blew as the sound of it was nothing but relaxing. As I entered the meadow, I continued walking forward, but moved at a slower place. I slowly looked around, thinking about the past, mainly about Kaylen again. I was remembering the many days of when we would walk across meadows such as this one. There was no one to bother us and nothing to fight. It was a time that I wished I could have again, but sadly, I knew that it wasn’t possible. When I approached the middle of the meadow, I came to a halt. I looked down for a few seconds, having terrible images of Kaylen’s parasitic form in my head. I didn’t know why she chose such a path, but I should’ve seen it coming. My emotions of love had blinded me to the truth, that Kaylen wanted power. Whether she wanted it to protect or to conquer wasn’t answered just yet, but whatever it was, this was the outcome. She had changed, and in many ways, so have I. I slowly looked up, staring at a mountain in the distance. It was large, but I could see its peak way high up. I thought about quickly climbing it before the night ended, but I imagined that I would take longer than I needed. Instead, I sat down in the meadow then submerged myself within the hundreds of flowers. The soft bed was squished under my body, leaving an imprint within the field. It felt warm and fragile. If only you were here now.

About the Author
Matthew David Boyle was born on February 15, 1991 and is the youngest brother of four boys. He was diagnosed with Autism (PDD/NOS) when he was three years old and did not speak until after he turned four. He struggled through all of the social aspects of society, as well as the school system, leaving in grade 10. Matthew had no interest in his English courses, including reading and writing, until he met a home instruction teacher while he was in Grade 9. She took the time to nurture his self-esteem as well as his incredible imagination, resulting in his creative writing skills. Matthew started writing books at the age of 15 and published his first novel, Zarketh, at the age of 19. He is an avid computer gamer, to which he attributes some of his ideas. He is currently working on several book projects.
