About the Book
"Simply Me" is a collection of poems with a hint of amusement and lots of truth. The poems initiate awareness to living life well. As we keep living, life experiences will merely suggest growth on our journey. "Simply Me" consistently shares the dynamics of taking charge over your life by knowing whose in charge of your life. We can't get away from trial and tribulation but we can approach them in a way perhaps will open our minds to receive change about us, from the inside out." Simply Me" introduces to us "the choice and some of the benefits attached. "I sat with the intent my poems would help some motivate and inspire I pray for change to come"
About the Author
Lisa Barber was born and raised on the south side of Chicago, the youngest of four siblings, to the parents of Celes and Joseph William Barber. Lisa and her family attend St Elizabeth church every Sunday. However, after the lost of Lisa's older sister, family life has never been the same. Lisa and her mom moved around a lot in the Chicago area causing Lisa to attend many different schools, Lisa continued with her education in spite of the many obstacles she faced. Lisa's parents shared her proud moment when she receive her Bachelors of Art at Columbia College in 1995. Lisa went on to pursue many free-lancing opportunities. Among a few were logo designing and illustrations for children's story books. Portrait painting has been a passion since Lisa's sophomore year, under the teaching of Mr. Myles at Simeon Vocational High School. Lisa stretch her creative abilities to direct several fashion shows. and participates on the beautification ministry at Apostolic Faith Church where she is currently an active member. Lisa always remembered her fathers special way of dialog in such a rhyming format that it birth her second passion, poetry. The seed he planted, life's trials and tribulations forced it to grow. Poetry formed as a comfort zone to express feelings, and emotions. For Lisa, poetry was a outlet for healing , it was personal. But what Lisa stumbled on to as she read her poems over and over, was encouragement, motivation, inspiration and determination. Lisa began to read her poems to family, friends, co-worker even open mic. the response was endearing. Lisa's personal moments became a tool for a source of public healing in her new release "Simply Me".
