Chapter One Bryan was a regular guy. Okay, maybe he wasn’t so regular. Maybe he wasn’t even typical. But he was American. He was an American guy. Of course, if you live in America you might think the guys are all different. But if you’ve lived somewhere else and then came back, you’d think that they were all the same. At least they started out the same. Bryan had a mother and a father. His father was a big, powerful guy. That’s how Bryan described him to me. And Bryan knew he’d never be as powerful as his dad. His dad was rich. A self-made man. When he was twenty-two years old, Bryan’s father was poor with a wife and three children. By the time he was thirty, he was a millionaire. Power meant money. If you had money you were powerful. If you didn’t you were shit. I told you he was American. He had his Gods right. He knew who to fucking worship. So Bryan’s dad was rich. Which pretty much meant that Bryan’s life was shit. Always was shit and always would be shit. He did the regular things rich kids do. I think he did it because he wanted to out from under the yoke. But, of course, his dad being rich made that impossible. If your dad is poor, or better yet if your dad is incompetent, a washout, you’re the lucky one. You can only be better. But Bryan, he had no where to go but down. He could never be better than his father. But sometimes you gotta go down, just like you gotta go down on a woman. If you want to get the fuck, you got to eat the pussy. Women pretty much insist on that today. But, you know, sometimes you just got to fuck up.
