Chapter 1-I was born in 1963, a poor farmer's daughter. By poor, I mean we didn't have any extra money. There was plenty of food since we grew our own vegetables and processed our own meat as did most people back in the day. We lived in rural Mississippi and most of our family lived on the same dirt road only yards apart. I didn't mind the gardening, although I must admit that truck patch farming was not as much fun as a smaller garden. I did, however, enjoy the processing of our meat. Hogs were always killed in the fall of the year. I loved the smell of lard cooking over a large open fire in the cool crisp air.

This story is the most heart wrenching story I have ever heard. I am in awe of Bonnie Davis and her resolve. I would not have been able to survive such an ordeal. Bonnie felt the hand of God on her from a very early age and He gave her the strength she needed to live. I can't wait to meet Bonnie in heaven when it's my time to go home. What an amazing woman! About the Author
Vera Simpson Gaines was reared in Houston, MS on a dairy farm and now resides in Senatobia, MS with her husband Gary Gaines of 42 years. Gaines graduated from Houston High School in 1967 and attended Miss. State Un. and graduated with a BS degree in 1972. Gaines taught school for 7 years and worked in educational research for 8 years. Gaines started writing after losing her eye. Her first book Call Me Jobulene is about her trials and tribulations and how the Lord lead her through them. Her second book Are You A Job In Modern Times? was written for the Katrina victims to help them rebuild their lives. Her third book All Is Well With My Soul is a daily devotional that helps people deal with adversities in their every day lives. Gaines has two daughters.
