Restless Souls

RESTLESS SOULS takes a fun and insightful look at all those eternal questions, what-ifs, regrets, joys, failures and triumphs we experience as human beings.   Introducing characters that have memories of many past lives provides an intriguing way of telling stories that involve captivating experiences, a bit of history, a taste of humor, a glimpse at evil, and the full range of emotions, vices and virtues.

Placing these people together in a remote setting, sharing stories, meals, cocktails, secrets, trials and tribulations, sets the stage for some fantastic adventures and romances in their current lives.  Most of these characters have found ways to benefit from their memories, making them the remarkable people they have become in this life, but the terrors and heartaches each has experienced in some of their past lives have left their mark in different ways.

Sam Merrick brings the group together to help his granddaughter understand and benefit from the gift of her memories and to try to prove to his ex-wife that he now accepts and understands what her memories of past lives have meant to her, even though he failed her miserably in the past.  He wants to win back her love and share that part of her life that he denied before.

Sam’s plan seems pretty straight forward at first.  He just wants to create a sharing environment so that everyone can learn and benefit from each other, and a spacious home in the remote San Juan Islands seems just the place.  But putting those nine people together creates an explosion of events, relationships, and revelations that turns Sam’s little group study into a dream world at times - and a nightmare at others. 

Sam begins to wonder if he has bitten off more than he can chew, but nothing can move him, or anyone else in the group to put an end to their remarkable journey, not even the mysterious death of Bernie, the one undesirable member.  Bonds are forming that will last this, and possibly future, lifetimes. 

Who hasn’t pondered at times what awaits us when we pass away, or how different our lives would have been if we knew then what we know now, or if those bouts of déjà vu are really memories of past lives.  Do we get more chances if we mess up our life?  If so, how many and how do we make the most of what we experience?  Does everyone get more chances or only a select few?  Do we meet the same people in different lives?
