About the Author
From 1983 until fall of 2007 I worked for the same company in Houston, Texas, Stage Stores Inc. In 2007 I resigned as a Sr. V.P. responsible for 200 retail clothing stores including; 14 districts, 3500 employees and overseeing $450 million in annual sales. Stage is a large public company that went bankrupt in 1999 due to being highly leveraged at the time. The company re-organiized and between 2000 and 2007, we once again became one of the most successful retailers in the country. In 2013, Stage Stores Inc. represents a textbook example across the country of how to run a successful retail clothing business. They operate over 800 stores in 39 states with annual sales of over $1.6 billion annually. On a personal note, not once, but twice, I was on the company plane when a major mishap occured and I survived both times without a scratch. In 2011, I went back to college to complete my degree and on May 18, 2013 I graduated with a 3.92 GPA and I delivered the keynote commencement speech in front of 18,000 people including my five children at Minute Maid Park. I begin my masters in non-profit management in fall 2013 and I am currently forming a 503c in Bellaire, Texas to benefit the Arts community. I have 5 wonderful children ranging in age from 28 to 10. I am a native Houstonian. I work for a consulting company that conducts virtual workshops around the world called Visions to Excellence.
