I am pleased to welcome you to a journey that will assist you with emotional and spiritual maturity through the power of the Holy Spirit. This study guide aims to assist you in applying the biblical principles found in Set the Captives Free: Resource Guide, to your individual life, cell group and congregational life. The resource guide was written with congregations in mind, knowing that when individuals attend a worship service, they want to be “led to find meaningful experiences with Christ.’’ Having already aided a number of individuals in applying the biblical principles in this workbook, with great benefits, it is anticipated that others will gain similar experiences. The transformational premise of this workbook is: In order for each local congregation to evangelise its neighbourhood and lead people to Christ, it must be emotionally and spiritually healthy. Although information is power, I recognise that for it to be beneficial, we must apply it to situations in our lives so that transformation can occur. And this is exhibited in Romans 12:1-2, which encourages the Christian believer to give their bodies to God “as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will’’ (NIV). Such a verse identifies the importance of emotional and mental soundness, thus indicating the requirements which can lead to maturity. Thus, the model of discipleship that includes positive emotional health has such an expectation built into it. With that in mind, each session requires you to use the information that you have acquired to help you progress. In using this study guide, you will engage in a number of processes and journeys through which you can practically apply various biblical principles as you seek to experience a transformation at the emotional level of your life. Our aim is that you would experience optimal health by becoming restored holistically.

About the Book

As you engage with the material in the workbook which will take you to a deeper level of your life, you will move beyond simply hearing or reading about emotional health and intentionally develop emotional health as you grow in Christ. Session after session, you will engage in a number of processes, journeys and steps through which you can practically apply the biblical principles as you seek to experience a Christ-directed transformation in your life. The aim of providing this material is to assist you in experiencing optimal health.
About the Author
Victor D. Marshall has a keen passion for the ministry of intercessory prayer, emotional health and spirituality which are powerful pathways to deepening one’s relationship with God. He has also designed the Holistic Restoration Programme which features a series of Seminars entitled A Balm in Gilead and a ministry of holistic restoration entitled A Journey Towards Total Wholeness. Victor, who is trained in Special Needs Education, Educational Psychology, and possesses an MA in Pastoral Studies, works for the North England Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in the United Kingdom. With his dear wife, Maria and son, Josiah, at his side, he presently pastors Doncaster, Sheffield Carterknowle and Sheffield Manor Seventh-day Adventist Churches in South Yorkshire, England.
