In April 1962, two and a half years after the two countries agreed to install them, U.S. Jupiter missiles finally became operational in Turkey. It is purported that, during a vacation in the Crimea that same month, Nikita Khrushchev gazed across the Black Sea towards Turkey and mulled over the possibility of sending Soviet missiles to Cuba in response to the American missiles now positioned along his border. When he returned to the Kremlin to discuss the proposal, he came up with two more reasons to go ahead with the plan. The first was that it could deter the U.S. attack on Cuba. An American invasion was expected in the fall, because Castro's agents were well aware of Operation Mongoose and Operation Northwoods. The second was to help close the weapons gap between the U.S.S.R. and the U.S. The Cubans estimated that in the event of an American attack, they could hold out for three to four days. It would take the Soviet Union longer than that to come to their assistance. The missiles would either deter the attack, or provide sufficient firepower until the Russians could respond. Advisors Andrei Gromoyko and Anastas Mikoyan warned Khrushchev that it was a “very dangerous step” that would cause a “political explosion” in the United States. Khrushchev proceeded, “over the concerns of the two of his advisors who knew American politics best,” because he believed they could be installed before the Americans found out about them. Khrushchev planned to deliver a letter to JFK after the Congressional mid-term elections announcing the missile installation as a fait accompli. All through the summer of 1962, the CIA reported that Soviet arms shipments to Cuba were increasing. The U.S. had noticed a significant surge in the number of Soviet ships off-loading cargo in Cuban ports. By late August, there were reports from senate committees of “rocket installations” in Cuba. On Sunday, October 14, Major Richard S. Heyser flew the Air Force's first U-2 mission over the western section of Cuba and photographed areas where refugees reported that major construction was underway.

On November 22, 1963, the 35th President of the United States was gunned down on the streets of a modern American city. In the fifty years since that crime was committed in Dallas, hundreds of books, reports, and articles have been written about this tragic event in American history. Collectively, these works examine every aspect of the assassination, from the errors and cover-up of the Warren Commission, to discrepancies in, and manipulation of the evidence. They look at the number of assassins, their firing position, the number and timing of the shots, and the numerous other details of the murder. This book does not revisit any of these topics. This book uses that information to assert why the shooters were there.
About the Author
The author has been a student of the Kennedy assassination since the day it happened. He deeply respects all of the authors who pioneered research into this subject. As an engineer, He also had a keen interest in the Manhattan Project and the development of nuclear weapons and their effect on the course of history. These interests seem disparate, but overlaying one on the other, led to an understanding of this riddle, wrapped in an enigma inside a mystery.
