About the Book

Without inhibitions and with remarkable sensibility, John Ras Coomson speaks about his feelings, in mood that are by turn dramatic, sensual or ironic.

The title of his collection, “The World In Our Time”, suggests from the start the topics he will treat. They are themes drawn from his own experiences – those of a black man living underground, colonialism, racism and other questions of political or religious nature.

In a language that is authentically poetic and personal, at times musical, John Ras Coomson seeks to lift the Black experiences to a level of universal artistic expression, one whose components being not to a structure, but to the culture of “The World In Our Time”.
