Promise of the Garden

Spidy glanced over at him. “A promise? To the creepy crawlers? So what? Despite the fact that you all have this Zen friendship thing going, Mr. Mantis, the bottom line is that none of us needs friendship to survive. I catch all kinds of you guys every day, Manty. Once they’re in my web I’m surrounded by “neighborhood friends”. Manty stood staring at Spidy for several moments, then walked over to him. “You eat them, Spidy. You don’t know anything about them and don’t care anything about them. They’re not your friends. They’re prey.” He paused then asked. “You told me once Spidy that you’ve lived in many gardens. So I guess you’ve never taken the time to make friends anywhere.” Manty began walking away, heading for his lovely rose bushes. “Besides, Spidy… I made a promise to you, too”. Spidy stared at him. He didn’t know what to say. No one ever made a promise to him before. So no one ever kept a promise to him before. This garden was different.
