Summer Blood

Jessica Folds walked briskly that night. Or as briskly as a girl could in six inch high stilettos. The midnight air was cold and sharp and Jessica cursed herself for not bringing a coat. Still it had been worth it. The party had been so much fun. Even without copious amount of alcohol. Her friend Charlot had been right about the short blue dress. The boys couldn’t stop staring. Jessica smiled as she remembered stealing a few kisses. But it was the kiss from Jason Ryder that she remembered best of all. He was such a stud yet that night he only had eyes for her. Jessica was glad she was nearing home now as the cold air started to bite. She let her mind wonder back to the party one more time. That sexy slow dance with Trent, tasting his sweet lips. A smile crept across her face. But then a strange noise brought her back to reality. It almost sounded like a voice calling her name. Maybe it was just her imagination. Her thoughts running wild over Jason and that kiss. But she heard it again. “Jess” A low whisper just about audible. Jessica turned around and thought she saw movement in the shadows. For just the briefest of moments. She shook her head, there was nothing there. But Jessica couldn’t sake off the feeling that she was being followed as she carried on home. Dare she look behind her again. As if for some reason there would be no one there if she didn’t look back. Then suddenly she could hear foot steps behind her. It was almost as if some one wanted her to know that they were there. Jessica stole a quick glance behind her. Although shrouded by darkness Jess was sure she could make out the silhouette of a man. Jessica started to run faster. But it was proving difficult in her high heels. Jess’s only saving grace was the fact home was just a few hundred meters away. At that moment the heavens decide to weep. The rain came crashing down hard and fast. Massive puddles began to form in the tarmac roads. Water ran into the drains like tiny rivers. And the rain soaked through Jess’s dress, making it cling to her skin. With her skin soaked dress combining with her heels Jessica found it more and more difficult to run. Home suddenly felt like a million miles away and she could feel the stalker gaining on her. Tears began to form in her eyes and run down her already rain soaked face. Her legs tiring her feet soar from all the running. Could she push her self that little bit further. Jess tried to block out the pain and fatigue and drove herself on. Out of nowhere she felt a cold rush of air brush against her skin. It was almost as if something had swept right past her. Jessica checked behind her one more time. The stalker was gone. Had he given up. Maybe he wasn’t after he at all? Maybe he went off in a different direction and was only making haste because he knew it was going to rain. But as that thought ran through he mind Jessica ran into something with a thud. Or more like some one. The collision wasn’t enough to knock jess of her feet. But she staggered back to see a tall lean man in a dark suit and rain coat. The man stared at her with empty hollow eyes. In that second Jessica knew she was staring into death. A dark abyss were no one returned. But even worse was to come. As the man smiled and opened hi mouth, Jessica could see two large fangs. Vampire and impossible were the only thoughts that crept into her mind. Seconds later those thoughts were replaced by panic and fear. Jessica wanted to flee. But she couldn’t move. Was she frozen by fear. Or did this monster hold some kind of hypnotic power. Preventing her from getting away. The monster reached out and grabbed Jessica’s arm. He pulled her in closed. He Stroked her long brown hair and then pushed it aside baring her neck. Jessica felt a sharp pain and then a slight tingling sensation as the monster sank his razor sharp fangs into the soft white flesh of her neck. Jessica soon began to feel weary. It was if all her energy was being sapped away. She felt weaker with every passing second. Her eye lids became heavy and she felt unable to support her own wait. Only the monsters support stopped her from collapsing. Soon there was nothing but darkness. Death had come for her and Jessica gave her self willingly. Peace at last.
