After unlocking the padlock, he pulled open the rickety door. Standing in the threshold of the doorway, Nathan was instantly consumed by a life-long terror. A quivering anxiety took control as he prepared to enter into enemy territory.
Nathan knew, that within this ten by ten space of shadows and darkness, existed a dominion of eight-legged terrorists. A decadent breeding ground for the most terrifying of God’s creatures - at least in his mind.
Everyone harbors their own special fear, their own special phobia. A private horror that festers in the furthest depths of their being. Nathan‘s personal phobia was spiders, an irrational fear that he hid from his entire life.
In Nathan’s eyes, the likes of snakes, rats, insects and other creatures of the wild were not worth a second glance. But, the sight of the smallest insignificant spider could turn him into a squirming, cowering mouse. Though the foolish fear of spiders made him feel like a child, he went out-of-his-way to avoid any and all eight-legged adversaries.
Nathan could not help but close his eyes in terrified expectancy. It took a moment, to prepare for what he was about to engage in. After a few deep breaths, he reopened his eyes and began surveying the shadows. Brow sweat-beaded, he anxiously searched for the nearest nemesis.
After turning on the flashlight, he immediately took a step back. Unlike most storage units, surrendering themselves to a few scattered webs, Nathan was staring at what had to be hundreds of webs. A network of independent silk spun structures, but at the same time, they also appeared to have a connecting relationship.

About the Book
In the cavernous tombs of the subconscious, lie the pattern of one’s existence. A dark depository, where everything experienced in one’s lifetime is stored.
Sleep, a normal and natural state. A temporary exit from reality - or is it?
When one falls asleep, a door is unlocked to the outer edges of the subconscious. A spontaneous dominion where dreams and nightmares reside. An unpredictable place, where at any time, one’s fantasies or demons can come to visit.
Rooted directly within this mystifying province, dreams feed off the information hoarded away within the nooks and crannies of this uncharted region.
There are no ground-rules in the furthest depths of the human mind. Therefore, not all dreams have the endings one wishes for. Sometimes, the subconscious can be a monster all its own, manipulating dreams into nightmares. A ruthless encampment where a gathering of evils lie and wait.
In this dark, imminent place lie one’s fears, a graveyard of dirty, torn memories.
A place where hidden secrets reside - the skeletons in one’s closet.
A grey zone of remembrance that only resurfaces during the worst of nightmares.
Some people are afraid to go to sleep - and for good reason. For in their slumber, they see themselves for who they really are. Bringing them face-to-face with their personal demons.
Sometimes, the substance of the dream has its own special power over the dreamer. Often, so terribly real, that it appears one’s very future lies within the outcome.
There is a myth, feared by some, that if you die in a dream, your immediate reality is death. Improbable, perhaps, but what if your dreams are being manipulated and controlled by an unforeseen force. Leading you to a terrifying place from which there is no return. A final crossroad where the realm of life and death is razor-thin.
As in most dreams, everything appears distorted. But, do these distortions fall too far from the truth. Sometimes, the worst of nightmares are closer to reality than you think.
It is one’s choice to create his or her own private hell. To venture into a temporal journey with no boundaries or restrictions. A place only found “in a dream’s eye”.
So take refuge in the fact, that what takes place in the following pages, will probably never happen to you - or will it?
About the Author
Houston Cross was born in Michigan. At a very young age, his parents moved the family to California. While attending college he majored in Psychology. Though intrigued by every aspect of the human psyche, Houston studied dream therapy in an attempt to understand the subconscious mind. Once college had come to an end, the next several years were spent traveling trying to find his nitch in life. When all was said and done, it came down to a final inescapable fact. A fact that he had harbored subconsciously his entire life. Houston wanted to be a writer. With nearly a dozen books in progress, he decided to concentrate on one “IN A DREAM’S EYE”. Though never published before, he knew he had something the entire world could enjoy. The first of many exciting experiences Houston Cross wishes to share with everyone.
