Он уходил, как и многие тысячи его сверстников уходили в океан изучать, искать или просто ловить. Они все были равны перед мощью океана и различны со своими необыкновенными индивидуальными судьбами. Начало его пути было похоже на многие тысячи таких начал, идущих в неизвестность и наперекор. И эта книга даже не о нём или обо мне, а о всех тех ребятах в океане, как память о них и благодарность им за то, что мы вместе открывали неизведанные глубины и выстояли жестокие шторма. Если хотите это приключенческая реальная биогрфия многих тысяч молодых и не очень молодых моряков-рыбаков, когда-то живущих на этой планете. Это его история лишь одного обычного рейса, хотя обычных рейсов в океане не бывает, как не бывает обычных океанов. Он помнил мельчайшие подробности необычного рейса - разрушительный шторм, невесть откуда обрушившийся на научно-поисковый траулер на подступах к Гренландии, и самые страшные за последние столетия ураганы 1969г, Камилла и Дэбби. Они видели величественные вечные фиорды белого ледяного острова Гренландии полные таинства с сохранившимися признаками древних викингов в южном фиорде Эрика Рыжего; огромные чёрные существа в трале из абиссальных глубин… Там, у застывшего безмолвия вечных льдов и снегов, фантастические айсберги и миражи, чудеса и загадки больших глубин ожидали их, первопроходцев. He was leaving this land, as many his teammates, to explore the ocean deep. They all were equal before the might of the ocean and they were different with their unusual individual fortunes. The beginning of his oceanic way was similar and comparable to thousands of such onsets of young explorers. And this book even not about him or myself, but this is about all those guys in the ocean and this is my thankful memory about them for that we were together in our pioneering quests and that we together withstand formidable storms and hurricanes. This is the realistic adventurous biography of thousands of young and not so young oceangoing fishermen, existing on this planet long tome ago. The author reveals the story of just an ordinary exploratory voyage, however there are no ordinary voyages in the ocean, as there are no ordinary oceans in this world. He remembers all large and small details of this unusual expedition - destructive storm, appeared from nowhere on the approaches to Greenland, and the most disastrous for the last centuries hurricanes of 1969 Camilla and Debbie. They saw real wonders: magnificent everlasting fiords of the icy island Greenland, filled with mystery and enigmatic past with the signs of old Vikings in Erik the Red fiord; huge black creatures in the trawl from the abyssal depths…Over there, nearby of the silent boundless ice fields and snow terrains, fantastic icebergs and mirages, the wonders and riddles of the ocean deep were waiting for them, pioneers-explorers.

Леонард Шепель родился на Украине; морской биолог-ихтиолог; кандидат биологических наук. Техник/инженер промразведчик, начальник научно-поисковых судов в Арктике и Атлантическом океане, от Гренландии и Лабрадорского моря до моря Веддела и пролива Дрейка у Антарктики. Он принимал участие в международных переговорах в области рыболовства; был Исполнительным Секретарём международной организации по рыболовству в Северо-Западной Атлантике (НАФО) в Галифаксе, провинции Новой Шотландии в Канаде в 1991-2002гг; издавал профессиональные публикации, статьи на русском и английском языках.
