Moondance

…“He lay down on his back, feeling the cold rain popping on his face. The crazy person with the glinting knife in hand, was once again standing over him, this time guarding against another kick, no more mistakes! No more kicks to the groin! The last thing Pete heard before passing out, was this crazy woman humming that tune. “Moondance”, yes that was the tune! Then he thought he heard other voices in the distance, but he couldn’t be sure, he just needed to close his eyes. The voices Peter had heard were the shouts from DC Sharon Simmons, and DC Bernie Webb, as they were running hard towards what appeared to be an attacker and someone lying on the ground. The rain was coming down heavy now and obscured their vision. ‘Hey you, stop right there!’ they shouted as they ran from the opposite side of the park, attempting to cut across the cricket pitch, but the grass was very slippery and they had a hard time keeping a foothold. The killer saw them coming, and knew she could outrun them by taking the pathway back the way she came in, but before she set off, she looked down at her victim, thinking should she cut the carotid artery to confirm her MO. She decided quickly, that the man on the ground may be faking, and could grab and hold her until these interfering bastards arrived, so she quickly plunged the knife into the man’s abdomen, then she ran off into the night, making her escape. Sharon and Bernie split up, Sharon ran towards the victim, shouting into her radio as she struggled to keep her footing, while Bernie set off on a tangent after the attacker. Bernie was slipping and sliding on the grass, and he fell onto his knees more than once and knew he was not going to catch the attacker, who had already reached the exit gate and was off into the darkness. When he finally got to the gate, there was no sign of anyone up or down the street, it was pointless running either way, as he had no idea which direction the attacker had gone. He decided it was safer not to, in case the attacker was waiting for him in an alley, so he turned back towards where Sharon was attending to the victim on the ground…”
