Brittle Pages
The antique desk
holds lost names.
A quill pen lonely
for another letter.
I smell old leather books.
The words sit silent now,
a writer forgotten for
centuries, so long ago.
Sitting in my study I
blow away thick dust
breathing life into old
words, now new again.
A mind alive, reading
to remember days long lost.
The paper, brown and brittle;
feels and smells like no other.
Old bells no longer ringing
upon the modern mind.
Old voices, dust of the past
a whisper inside brittle pages.
Shallow Fields
Shallow fields, our journey
recall the stillness
of our life
memories distant, near and good.
Walking to our Marble House,
a picturesque view to the past;
another step, walk gently
down the staircase of time.
Another adventure to replay
the vivid detail
of our journey
to a great place.
Through the shallow fields
we walked, oh’ gentle breeze.
Hello my daisies, you dear lily—
a reminder of our friends.
The final journey, oh’ the many years
awaken from the dream
as we traveled through,
shallow fields.

About the Author
Darrin Kramer was raised in Nevada, Missouri, a small rural town. He was the 2013 National Indie Excellence Awards Finalist for Fall Leaves Float. At age fifteen, he began writing poetry. He served as a poetry judge for the Arizona-New Mexico Poetry Awards. He resides in Phoenix, AZ.
