About the Book

The contents of this book are 40 years of working in the livestock industry. I’ve been involved in just about every phase of the cattle industry with working in feedlots, on ranches, and even 16 months in a large packing house. Along with this is a lifetime of rodeoing and jackpot ropins. The stories told here are short snippets of the day-to-day work and the people we worked for. I tried to maintain the vocabulary and the flavor of the day, so I hope the reader finds some entertainment here. I sure had fun writing it. A lot of the stuff here deals with the great cowboys and cowgirls I’ve crossed paths with... without them I wouldn’t have anything to say. Enjoy!

About the Author

ABOUT EL JEFE For as long as I can remember I wanted to cowboy. It is something in my DNA, I guess. When a young boy, five or less I was told, I had more stick-horses than any other kid. It's all I thought of going to school and growing up. Nothing else mattered. I've spent my life in pursuit of more knowledge of the horse, the cow, and all things pertaining to them. I've competed in ropins, horse shows, rodeos, and livestock shows. At times, my family suffered from this malady of mine, but I feel somehow they were proud also. When out of high school, I felt that feedlots were the high tech end of the cow business. So, while going to college, I worked part-time in a good one. Every day I learned about fat cattle and how to make them so. When, after eating feedlot dirt for 14 years, my health weakened, I went to ranches and a short stint in a packing house. I've ranched for other people and myself, ups and downs, but loved every minute of it. And, if I had to do over, would figure how to get more crammed into the time at hand. Through all those years I roped, a second addiction: team roping. Never a world champion, but a solid competitor. This book tells of incidents in the last 40 years in each of those areas. I hope you all enjoy it.
