Max sat in his room feeling very sad and lonely. He loved to be around people; he thought he was very friendly but the last few weeks while he had been living in this new place nobody had come to visit him. He didn’t understand why. He thought back to the day everything changed. He remembered walking in the town one sunny morning, doing nothing in particular just enjoying a stroll in the fresh spring breeze, smelling the scent of daffodils and freshly mown grass as he walked by. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, appeared a big van. The van pulled up at the side of the road and two men in blue uniforms opened the van doors and stepped out. They approached Max and bundled him through the back doors into the rear of the van. They weren’t nasty men but with all htis happening completely out f the blue, Max felt quite frightened. He wondered what on earth could it mean and what had he done?

Max is an ordinary, healthy eight-year-old. His only sadness is that he doesn’t have a real family of his own, something he desperately wants.
