That night I went with Ali and her mom over Gammie's house. I call her Mrs. Mildred because I think it's the most polite thing to do...and because my mom said I should. It wasn't long before Mrs. Mildred beat us both at checkers and told us a story about a prank her brother played on her. "OH GAMMIE, was the prank better then the last one? Ali asked almost jumping out of her seat. Ali couldn't wait to hear the prank. She heard a lot of legendary stories and knew this one was going to be the best ever. But before she began Ali's mom entered the room. "it's getting kind of late girls, we should let Gammie get some rest." "Aww No. Just a few more minutes please Mom. Gammie, you can tell Mom what to do....Tell her to let us stay longer!" "No sweetie, said Gammie. Your mom is right, the story will have to wait until later, ok?" "Ok Gammie, I love you" "I know you do Ali. Your Mom told me how much you wanted to come tonight to help me. Thank you so much for being my little guardian. I love you too."

About the Book
On the last day of school, Ally tells everyone all the things she will do this summer, like hanging with her friends in the ice cream club, swimming, riding horses, and most importantly, spending time with her Gammie. But Ally soon finds that everything doesn't go as planned. With the help of her family and best friend, Kylie, Ally discovers that she is not alone and that what she feels after losing her grandmother is normal.
About the Author
Nakeshia Nickerson created the first book in the Tulvia Lane series while attending college at The Ohio State University. Though she often wrote short stories and poems in her spare time, Nakeshia rarely shared them with anyone. It wasn't until submitting a story and receiving encouraging words from her English professor that Nakeshia grew motivated to share her work. While studying psychology, Nakeshia recognized the need for children to receive support during their developmental years and created the Tulvia Lane series. With stories inspired by children of family and friends as well as influences from her own childhood, Nakeshia has written a series of books that follow the lives of a group of friends as they grow into adolescence. Nakeshia lives in Beachwood, Ohio.
Illustrator Steve Feldman works as a freelance illustrator and artist from his studio/home in Oregon. He is a published and listed member of The Society of
