The Future Box

Growing up Allen had always been very close to his mum, Kate. Initially she was the perfect mother, but as the years went by she transformed from being a kind, caring and patient woman into an anxious, fretful and very loud character. In time Allen came to realize that it was the breakdown of her relationship with his dad(Samuel) that had forced her to become someone else. Samuel and Kate had gotten married and moved to England in the early eighties. Sam was a very driven man whose goal was to excel academically, get to the top of his chosen field and earn enough to take care of his family. Kate belonged to a completely different ‘dispensation’. She had always dreamt of the time when her night in shinning amour would appear and sweep her off her feet, pledging his undying love for her and proving it by providing her every need...she was by no means lazy and in fact had taken on some menial jobs in order to help Sam pay his law school fees, but she did not feel the need to push herself to excel professionally or academically. As the years went by and as he climbed up the professional and social ladder Sam’s point of view began to change; He felt the need of a wife that was at ‘par’ with him socially and intellectually, unfortunately Kate was far from that and as a result he began to see her differently. At first it started as little irritations at her inability to understand certain terms and concepts until it developed into outright loathing of her “intellectual stagnancy” as Sam termed it……………
