About the Author

Live from Brooklyn, New York, in the 1980s—deep into the crack era, with immigration rising and hip-hop beginning—a poet was simultaneously birthed. Shari Valentina DeCastro, also known as MsQuoted, arose from childhood adversities to become a refined and skillful writer. At age twelve, an unruly encounter led her to ignite her talent, and this gift strengthened her throughout her life. This skill revealed its power to inspire the lives of others along her path. MsQuoted also has a rich Haitian culture and family background that fuels her character and her determination to pursue her life as a poet. She is a graduate from Temple University, having attained a bachelor of arts in psychology. Her experiences and education worked concurrently to build a profound devotion to society. MsQuoted built a solid career serving children, volunteering her time in prisons, planning artistic events for the community, and counseling friends, families, and strangers for years. She is an advocate for the youth and uses her words to continuously uplift and move the change. She knows her abilities as a writer, storyteller, and teacher will further her accomplishments as she continues to pursue her dreams and goals. She has received worthy praises regarding her writings.
