Collins continued, “In nineteen-sixty-nine a Marine NCO was to be charged with a felony crime. N.I.S., at the time, now NISCOM, made the recommendation for a charge of murder in the first degree. This particular NCO was in the hospital following the fifth time he was wounded. Before the Judge Advocate General could act on the recommendation, the guy up and disappeared. He escaped from hospital and was never seen again."

In 1990 two retired Marines, Colonel Paul Duckworth and Sergeant Major Seth Thompson, are called upon to investigate an apparent friendly fire shooting that occurred 22 years earlier on a Viet Nam battlefield. Following a trail of sworn but questionable testimony, their inquiry will either convict or exonerate the accused Marine of deliberate murder.
