About the Book
An English woman, who is romantically involved with a Greek Orthodox priest on a remote Aegean island, is eventually revealed as a call girl via a Greek magazine article she consented to be interviewed for some time previously. This, though, is not what gets the parishioners’ backs up as the affair unfolds. Vestiges of a pagan past still linger here, which resonate with Maggy via a dream: so at the priest’s request, she undertakes the role of oracle to divine the outcome of any repercussions. The divination proves to be far more prophetic than he bargained for.
About the Author
During her career as a prostitute in the 1970s, the author was among the vanguard of those questioning the legislation that criminalises those who put a price on their own sexual favours. This book is faction attempting to nail the essence of herself, via the story of a single mother who commutes between London and an idyllic Greek island where she has an ongoing affair with the local priest. The account is a blend of objective and subjective perceptions reflecting the way the writer reexperiences her affair of the heart, interspersed with revelations about the world of prostitution.
