(The Funeral.)
“Wow, I’m back in North Carolina once again… what does it take to escape this place?”, questions Eve to Reverend Cobb (Officiator of Funeral Services) at Holy Hope Church in Kinston, NC. “Eve… I remember when you were a mere girl… full of life and wonder. You were baptized at this church and you parents wed here. There are some good memories here. I recall when your parents accepted Christ as their Savior… as a matter of fact, they got saved moments after your Father kissed you Mother. I know you think that God has forgotten about you… but he hasn’t,” said Reverend Cobb to Eve. “Sure he has… saved folks don‘t suppose to die an early and tragic death like my parents did. Daddy was only 61 and Momma 59.” “So, save your sermon Reverend for my dead parents… look around… there’s no one here but you and I… I’m alone in this world… my family is gone… I’m the sole survivor of both sides of my family… you feel me?”, angrily replies Eve. “Eve, I’m not going to kid you… I know it hurts… but God will provide a way for you. My parents are deceased too.” Yeh, but your parents according to my Mother died of old age… not from an automobile accident… and besides, you have family still living… most importantly…. A wife that loves you dearly!”, exclaimed Eve. “Yes Eve, you
are right, but your day with that special man is coming… just have faith,” remarks Reverend Cobb. “Perhaps you’ve forgotten, but I’m ‘bout to bury my parents Reverend Cobb… so don’t preach to me about ‘Faith’ right now ‘cause I don’t have any, nor do I want to hear it.” “Reverend Cobb, all is ready,” stated Abner Simms (Mortician and Reverend Cobb’s long-time right hand man).
“Heavenly Father… we commission the spirits of Ray Anthony Jones and Mabel Jean Jones to you. These were your children… lovers of your Word and all things good. Please grant Eve your comfort, grace and above all… an understanding of her parents departure into your bosom of light. In your Son’s Jesus precious name, Amen.”
“Eve, do you have any final words before we commit the flesh back to the dust from whence it came?” “Yes… why?!” “In due to time Eve…. in due time.” That’s not what I wanted to hear, but whatever.”, Eve responded hastily. “Goodbye Momma and Daddy… I will always love you.” “Send me an invoice for your service Reverend Cobb.” “No need… this one is one me.” “Thanks Rev., but, I will still send you a check. A girl has to stand on her own two,” replied Eve. “I’ll see you back again here sometime.” “Never that.” “Never say never… The Lord works in mysterious ways my child.”
(Eve gets into the limousine as the rain begins to fall.)
“There’s nothing keeping me here now held up in North Carolina. This place is so backwoods and country. I wish my parents would have moved with me to Philly when I offered to relocate them. Although, they were retried school teachers, I would have set them up nicely on my salary.” “Tomorrow, I’ll catch an early flight back to The City of Brotherly Love.”
(Eve lands back in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.)
“Home Sweet Home… It’s feels so good to be back.” “I have a full case load tomorrow,” thinks Eve. “I’d better get some shut-eye… being a corporate litigating attorney is not easy, but damn those paycheck sure look mighty fine.”
(Back in the rat race - Corporate America.)
“Boy, what a day. I could use something ’stiff’ to settle my nerves… I guess I’ll just have to settle for a Long-Island Ice Tea instead.” “I guess I’ll try out that new club that everyone is talking about that just opened up… what’s name of that place again… Oh yeh, “Demonica’s”.
(At Demonica’s.)
“This place is slamming… a girl can definitely get used to this!” “There are so many hot-looking guys in here… I hit the jack-pot. This place is a candy store filled with all the lollipops… whoa girl…. Back it up some. Just enjoy the view for a few moments.”
“Hey barkeep… fill a girl up.” “Your wish is my command sexy”, replied the bartender with a huge grin. “You’re the bartender?”, asked Eve. “Not only that sugar…, my name is on the building.” “Are you Demonica?”, inquired Eve. “24/7 baby.”, answered Demonica. “I’ve never seen you in here before… I would definitely recall a sister as fine as you.” “Are you hitting on me?,” questioned Eve. “Hey boo… my gate swings both ways.” “Whoa sister… but, my gate only swings one way.“, Eve immediately points out. “I like your spunk… have another drink on me.”, Demonica suggests. “Thanks, but no thanks… I girl has got to stand on her own two.” “Wow, where has the time gone? I gotta go.”, responded Eve. “Your club is tight… now I see why so many folks flock her like zombies”. “More than you know”, Demonica replied with a devilish grin. “Holla at you another time Demonica.” “Looking forward to it!”
