The little insect looked like she was staring back at him, but he couldn't tell exactly because her eyes were so big! "You are a praying mantis!" the ant pointed with his black antenna. One antenna was pointing up and the other pointing down. The other little insects came closer and began to giggle. "I'm what?" she whispered to his antenna. This tickled the ants antenna. "You're a praying mantis," the ant replied, backing away.

About the Book
A unique story about a relationship and sweet friendship developed between a female praying mantis and a male carpenter ant. Phoebe and Tommy explore and accept each other's differences in the insect world for a summer season. Understanding, acceptance and support are described in the story through friendly, innocent dialogue and exploration between the insects. This story will enhance a child's awareness of a praying mantis, as many children have never seen one. Sadly, the population has been reduced by environmental factors. It is presented with a non-scientific approach, but accurate enough to educate children about the existence of praying mantis.
About the Author
I have always enjoyed writing and took various creative writing courses while in High School. I also won a writing contest for a local Nursing Consortium about the trauma death of a young child. My husband and I developed a "relationship" with a praying mantis several summers ago. It was a very special and interesting experience, thus my inspiration in creating this story. A juvenile format was chosen to capture the interest of young children. I live in Ohio on a four acre plot and enjoy gardening. I have been in the Nursing field for many years.
