CELEBRITY is a book for non-fiction readers dealing with changes in Indian societies from the Epic era through the Golden age of Indian civilization, to the subsequent Islamic impact and the Raj reign right up to modern times. It discusses how these different societies evaluated and acclaimed outstanding achievements, thereby identifying their celebrities. The very concept of celebrity has undergone a change from a brilliant individual who, in earlier societies achieved something outstanding and era defining, to one who, in modern times, is conferred this status temporarily for being well known for some talent but largely because of his image managers, media consultants, and public information staff. This book is a history of this change in India.

About the Author
Preminder Singh Sandhawalia has travelled extensively during assignments with the Government of India, International Airports Authority of India, and the International Civil Aviation Organisation. His first book, a family biography, Noblemen and Kinsmen was published in 1999, and his second book, Beyond Identity, about his people was released in 2007. He has now explored the phenomenon of Celebrity in India, evidence of a widening scope of enquiry. He lives in Chandigarh, India.
