Parenting with Power speaks of the help that is accessible by all parents who walk in a committed and intimate relationship with God. This is the actual power to parent that every parent must have in order to be successful. The Holy Spirit is the link that provides parents with the guidance, instructions, comfort and strength to parent children in a manner acceptable to God. He (the Holy Spirit) dwells in the heart of the parent who belongs to God and seeks to bring God honor and glory through the experience of parenting. Parenting children is one way that God helps us grow significantly. Few consider the fact that a parent-child relationship can help parents become more spiritual and grounded Christian individuals. Granted, it can be somewhat beneficial to use what we have been taught by others and to use personal experience, in practical terms, of what works with children. However, in this book we will concentrate exclusively on Christian parenting according to the principles instituted by God. We will focus our attention here so that we can benefit from God’s wisdom, and not our own. We can relax, knowing that God’s word is perfect, faultless, and fully trustworthy. The concepts in this book are effective for utilizing the expertise of the One who created all children. Our Creator (God) has a full knowledge and understanding of dealing with children, despite their behaviors, attitudes, or struggles in life. God has revealed a fact about both children and parents in His record of truth: that neither children nor parents are perfect. "Discipline your son, and he will give you peace; he will bring delight to your soul." Proverbs 29:17 One of the most challenging areas of parenting is providing discipline. The scripture above tells us what we will gain if we discipline our children. They will give us peace and bring us delight. That is the desire of every parent. For some parents, discipline is the part of parenting that they hate the most. Parents must make a conscious decision to discipline their children and create a plan to put their decision into practice. Divine discipline is anchored in patience and kindness and in this regard, discipline is a simple form of loving children. Bringing this structure into the life of our child is not an option, since the Bible teaches that we must discipline our children. Failure to do so will undoubtedly bring disappointment, heartache, and chaos.

About the Author
Johnnie Coley takes a serious and honest approach to the real life issues and hardships of bringing up children in the world today, and she brings a Christian perspective to this challenge that is applicable in all stages of raising children. She uses the Bible extensively to bring encouragement and an awareness of God's provisions to the struggling parent, and seeks to redirect and refocus parents who might feel lost or be tempted to simply give up. She is known for using illustrations that are familiar to the individual and for providing strong, Biblical guidelines for living. Her focus is on following the absolute truth of the Bible and on helping parents become more spiritually centered and pleasing to God, teaching them about the resources and help that God has placed within their reach. This author brings the experience of a true professional to the table, drawing from her work with children and families for more than 25 years. She currently works closely with the single parent program at the Christian Home and Bible School in Mount Dora, Florida, where she teaches Christian parenting classes. Johnnie has also created a parenting workshop that acts as a companion to Parenting with Power, and it has already enjoyed much success. She is a master’s level social worker and has worked in both Christian and non-Christian teaching environments. Her diverse experiences enable her to use real-life examples to teach, and her devotion to the Lord means that she always takes her lessons from the powerful Word of God.
