It should be clear that the Christians empowered by Christian love and commitment will understand how they are called to act in accord with the modes of Christian response. The inadequacy of emotional motivation should be overcome much as by the non-Christian except that the reasons for so acting will be different. Of course, the something that awakens the non-Christian may at times be more effective in overcoming the lack of feelings. Still, all things being equal, the effect will often be similar, reason and motivation being different. The Christian, however, as explained above, has a deeper understanding of the human person. He or she will not only be sensitive to this-worldly needs, but also to the moral and spiritual dimensions of the person. All things are to be restored in Jesus Christ and for eternity. It is, however, sobering to realize that these modes of Christian response enlighten the Christian (together with an impulse to follow them) but are by no means assurance the Christian will so respond. As knowledge of the Ten Commandments leaves us free to sin. But the modes are a blessed gift for the Christian to become more Christ-like, more perfectly human.

These ways he then transforms for the Christian to follow the way of the Lord Jesus, love becoming the criterion of morally good choices–allowing God, who is love, to co-operate in our choices as you create yourself as a loving self.
About the Author
After years of study to acquire an MA , Ph L, STL, and a Ph D I have read everything German Grisez has written; but I have read in computer script each of the 3 volumes (each well over 900 pages) of his The Way of the Lord Jesus, , sent me for comment, I want to make him available to intelligent seekers of truth who may not have a philosophical or theological background. Teaching his college text for years has challenged me to discover ways to communicate his ideas in non-technical language, as has reaction from such readers to my work. Serious differences since Vatican II on moral/ethical issues has forced me to labor to understand and “get it right.” Grisez made clear where truth lies and how to discover truth. I love searching for the truth and want to share my love and empower others to do the same, liberating people from living with a sense of “tabu” about moral issues, empowering them to create their selves as decent human beings, and loving selves.
