Jimmy was crouched down on the floor next to the toilet, hunched over a small mirror lying on its closed lid. The fine white powder, laid out in neat lines on the glass shot both a rush of adrenaline and a deep loathing through her. She watched as he snorted up a line through a hollowed-out pen, and then leaned back against the tub, eyes watering. “The best thing you can do, Kyler, is turn around and walk out the door. I know it ain’t no excuse, but I’ve had a really shitty day.” Kyler closed her eyes, praying for strength, asking for forgiveness, begging for just a little bit of redemption because here she was once again, kneeling before her god, her demon, reaching for the pen. The coke hit her brain like a freight train, making her stomach clench up and her heart start an erratic pounding in her chest, eager to break free and fly away. She leaned against the wall and felt the live current as it rushed through her veins.

About the Book
Kyler was a street kid skateboarder once, and then later a heroin addict that hit rock bottom. Beaten and broken, her only salvation was suicide. After an overdose, she was saved and slowly aided back to health and sanity by a doctor that soon became the only father she'd ever known. She fought her way through the drugs and demons of her past to learn to love and trust again, finding a piece of serenity in her skating and her life one day, one minute, one breath at a time.
About the Author
This book is about addiction and recovery. After spending many years in the former and some great years in the latter, I decided to pen some of my experiences and emotional upheavals to a fictional character whose life both parallels mine and runs off in its own course. I was born and raised in Louisville, KY and have always loved skateboarders and their unlimited freedoms as they ride.
